*RECORD GRADING SYSTEM*
Mint (M)
No imperfections: grade reserved primarily for sealed copies.
Near Mint (NM)
A nearly perfect record: the vinyl has no audible imperfections or notable signs of damage/wear and the sleeve has only minor wear consistent with age (small sticker mark or signs of slight handling). An LP cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits, cut-out holes, or other noticeable similar defects. The same should be true of any other inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves, etc.
Very Good Plus (VG+)
50% of the Near Mint value: vinyl shows some signs of wear but defects are cosmetic (scuffs and very light scratches) but do not affect playback; cover shows some signs of wear or discoloration; sleeves and inner sleeves will have some slight wear, slightly turned-up corners, previous owner’s signature, etc. The LP cover may also have a cut-corner, punch hole, or other promotional markings from original release. The sleeve may also be different than the record’s original sleeve or a generic replacement.
Very Good (VG)
25% of Near Mint value: Similar but heightened defects as listed under VG+ but also may including noticeable (but still listenable) surface noise upon playback, particularly during intros. Record covers will have increased ring wear and may be further marred by writing and/or removed sticker marks.
Good (G)
10% of the Near Mint value: Record has surface damage but can be played through without skipping and with minimal pops or surface noise; cover and/or sleeve will have seam/spine splits, increased corner damage, and other defects will be present.
Poor (P)
Lowest Grade: Many defects and problems, both audibly and visibly.
