Rare Antique Meissen Porcelain Figure
This Antique Meissen porcelain figure (marked 199) is of Juno, modeled by T.P. Helmig (cir. 1900): the goddess surrounded by three cherubs and a peacock. The colors are still very vibrant with little to no fading. The underside has the crossed swords mark with the additional 199. Height approx. 9 1/2 inches.
Recent auction history for this rare piece has varied from $3000 - $5000 in varying conditions, and a pristine version currently sits on Ebay for $7000. There are not many of these around; according to Worthpoint, this piece has shown up only six times in recorded auctions.
It is important to note that this particular piece does have notable damage (a few broken pieces). However, all the broken pieces are accounted for and a trip to Phoenix Restoration in Seattle revealed the cost of complete restoration of the piece would be near $550. Antique porcelain experts we contacted confirmed that a restored piece is more valuable than a broken piece, but appraisals for value of a restored Meissen piece (roughly 120 years old) varied significantly.
