Experience the craftsmanship of the golden age of Swiss music boxes with this antique Mermod Frères "Sublime Harmonie" cylinder music box, manufactured in Ste-Croix, Switzerland during the late 19th century.
Housed in an elegant inlaid wood case, this mechanical music box features a pinned cylinder, steel comb, original tune indicator, and the desirable Jacot's Safety Check mechanism, patented in the 1880s to help protect the movement from damage. The original decorative "Sublime Harmonie" tune card remains with the box and lists ten musical selections.
Features include:
- Antique Swiss Mermod Frères cylinder music box
- "Sublime Harmonie" 10-air movement
- Original inlaid wooden case
- Original tune indicator and tune card
- Jacot's Safety Check patented mechanism
- Beautiful late Victorian craftsmanship
The case shows age-related wear, scratches, and finish loss. The original tune card is torn and has old tape repairs. Oxidation and surface rust are visible on portions of the comb and movement. The music box does not appear to operate and may require repair or restoration.
A wonderful restoration candidate or display piece for collectors of antique mechanical music, Victorian décor, and Swiss musical instruments.
